Symmetries in Classical Field Theory
A polished set of notes on classical fields, Noether's theorem, scalar fields, Maxwell theory, Proca theory, and gauge symmetry.
Theoretical physics
A personal archive for lecture notes, worked explanations, and current academic work in mathematical and theoretical physics.
About
I'm a theoretical physicist from Carmarthenshire in West Wales. I studied Theoretical Physics at Swansea and then Part III Mathematics at Cambridge.
This site is my hub for all things physics (and some maths). I write notes on topics that interest me in my spare time and try to make them as clear and readable as possible: a resource that is useful for me, and hopefully for anyone else working through the same material.
Beyond the notes, I care a lot about explaining physics well, whether through teaching, tutoring or writing, and about building up the mathematical sciences in Wales wherever possible.
Library
A polished set of notes on classical fields, Noether's theorem, scalar fields, Maxwell theory, Proca theory, and gauge symmetry.
A polished set of notes meant to serve as an introduction to special relativity with an emphasis towards QFT.
Research interests
The mathematical structure of quantum field theory, and the physical questions that motivate it. Is quantum field theory really fundamental, or is it an effective description of a deeper theory?
Is physics emergent from the underlying geometry of spacetime? How do geometric structures like fiber bundles, connections, and curvature relate to physical phenomena?
How can I communicate complex mathematical and physical ideas clearly and effectively? What are the best practices for writing notes, papers, and textbooks that are both rigorous and accessible? Can I contribute to the culture of mathematical exposition in a meaningful way?
